The Canon 24-105mm F2.8 boasts a relatively compact design and several key features to meet the demands of both photographers and videographers.
An internal zoom mechanism ensures that the length of the lens remains unchanged during operation—a useful feature for photographers working without a tripod. Additionally, the lens includes a manual aperture ring, a first for Canon’s RF mount.
While the aperture control via the ring may not work initially for photos, it will be activated in upcoming Canon camera bodies set to hit the market in 2024.
Weighing in at 1,330g, the 24-105mm F2.8 is not a lightweight option. The construction incorporates 4 UD and 3 aspherical elements, along with a coating designed to suppress flare and ghosting. Videographers may find the detachable Powerzoom adapter intriguing, offering smoother zooming with motor assistance, although it is not included in the package.
Low minimum focusing distance
Two ultrasonic motors ensure fast and quiet autofocus operation, with the 24-105mm F2.8 focusing as close as 17.7 cm.
Thanks to its weather-resistant construction, the 24-105mm F2.8 is suitable for outdoor and challenging shooting conditions. A rotatable tripod collar is included as standard equipment.
The Canon RF 24-105mm F2.8L IS USM Z will be available from December 2023 at a suggested retail price of 3,599 euros. The optional Powerzoom adapter is expected to be available from Spring 2024.
