The Deutsche Telekom has revealed the latest figures regarding its network expansion. Over the past eight weeks, the Bonn-based network provider has expanded its mobile coverage at 1,313 locations.
Among these, 382 sites have been newly equipped with LTE or 5G. According to Deutsche Telekom’s announcement, mobile network capacities were enhanced at a total of 931 locations.
Currently, the network provider caters to 800 communities with 3.6 GHz, allowing users to surf at download speeds of up to 1 Gbps. As of the end of September 2023, the number of cities and communities equipped with the 3.6 GHz frequency spectrum stood at 770. High-speed 5G remains a rarity in Germany.
Deutsche Telekom presently provides LTE coverage to 99 percent of the population, while 5G network coverage stands at 95 percent (based on population).
By 2025, the network provider aims to reach 99 percent of the population with fifth-generation mobile technology. The objective is to establish comprehensive 5G coverage throughout Germany.
Telekom Boosts Expansion Pace
In the last eight weeks, Telekom has accelerated its mobile network expansion, as revealed by a comparison with the previous expansion report from September.
Between August and September 2023, the network provider expanded at 982 sites and established 240 new locations. However, for October and November, the Bonn-based corporation has presented significantly improved figures for network expansion.
