Hyundai Unveils Uni Wheel Drive: Revolutionizing Electric Vehicle Design for Space Efficiency

Hyundai has just introduced a groundbreaking propulsion system for electric vehicles that might just revolutionize how future cars are designed.

They’re calling it the Universal Wheel Drive system or Uni Wheel. What makes it unique is that it frees up a lot of space inside the car by moving essential parts of the powertrain right into the hub of the wheel.

Instead of the usual bulky motors and transmissions taking up space at the front or back of the vehicle, Hyundai’s Uni Wheel setup cleverly houses a brand-new type of gear system directly inside each wheel.

During the unveiling, a Hyundai engineer explained, “The power generated by the motor gets transmitted to the sun gear. This then interacts with the pinions to rotate the ring gear linked to the wheel, essentially driving the vehicle forward.”

Although Hyundai didn’t specifically mention where they plan to use this Uni Wheel technology in their upcoming vehicles, they did confirm that they’ve already filed patents for this system in Korea, the United States, and Europe.

If this technology takes off, it could completely transform how electric vehicles are built. Imagine more room for passengers and cargo without making the vehicles any bigger in size. That’s the potential game-changer the Uni Wheel system could bring to the table.
