A newly erected transmission mast owned by Deutsche Telekom subsidiary DFMG collapsed and fell onto the Deutsche Bahn’s ICE tracks, as reported by the Celle Police Station. The approximately 40-meter-tall mast toppled shortly after its installation, crashing onto the ICE railway line between Hamburg and Hannover.
The overhead cables were torn apart. “The train service between Hamburg and Hannover was diverted via Rotenburg (Wümme), and a bus service was arranged between Celle and Eschede. Fortunately, no individuals were harmed,” stated the spokesperson for the Celle Police.
Technical Relief Agency had to cut mast into pieces
The Technical Relief Agency (THW) in Celle and a crane company managed to recover the mast. THW reported on Facebook that the accident occurred near the Klein Hehlen locality:
“With our 8 deployed THW personnel, the damaged tower was divided into 3 parts and prepared for lifting. Subsequently, a mobile crane lifted each part off the tracks. The operation concluded around 8:10 PM.”
According to the Cellesche Zeitung, the structure comprised two concrete elements and the antenna component. Following the completion of work, the mast tilted towards the tracks shortly afterward. Fortunately, no train was on the tracks at that time, and the workers had already left the site.
